Qualified arborist covering Cromer from our base at North Narrabeen. Insured, reliable and just up the road.
Cromer is a quiet inland suburb on Sydney's Northern Beaches, sitting between Dee Why and Narraweena with Cromer Park at its heart. We're based in North Narrabeen and cover Cromer regularly — it's a short drive and a suburb where we do consistent work. The tree environment here is typical of the inland Northern Beaches: established native canopy, larger blocks than the beach strips, and properties where the garden has often grown without much intervention for years.
The suburb has a good number of mature gum trees — Angophora costata, Eucalyptus species and Banksia — many of which are protected under Northern Beaches Council's DCP and require a permit before any significant work is carried out. We assess permit requirements at the quoting stage and can advise you on the right path before anything is planned. Where an arborist assessment report is needed to support a council application, we write those too.
We carry out the full range of arboricultural work in Cromer: tree removal, crown reduction pruning, deadwooding, stump grinding, hedge trimming and emergency response. You speak to Alex Price directly — the qualified arborist who turns up at your property and does the work. Straightforward from the first call through to the job being done.

Cromer's vegetation is shaped by the Sydney sandstone underlying much of the inland Northern Beaches. The dominant native species are Angophora costata (Sydney Red Gum), Eucalyptus haemastoma (Scribbly Gum) and various Banksia, which grow throughout the residential streets and along the escarpment edges near Cromer Park. These are large, long-lived trees — mature specimens can be 15 metres or more in height — and they provide significant canopy cover and habitat value. They also produce deadwood as a natural process, and branches do fall, particularly after storms or extended dry periods. Where these trees are near structures, a periodic hazard assessment is worthwhile.
Cromer's residential gardens have accumulated a mix of introduced species alongside the native canopy. Liquidambar, Jacaranda, Silky Oak and various Prunus species appear in older established gardens. Cocos Palms are widespread through the suburb and need regular frond and seed pod maintenance to prevent the heavy fruit clusters becoming a hazard. Photinia and Lilly Pilly hedges are common on boundaries and typically need annual or biannual trimming to remain controlled. If you have a tree you're uncertain about — species, condition or permit status — an on-site assessment answers all three questions at once.
Cromer falls within the Northern Beaches Council local government area. Under Northern Beaches Council's DCP Part B13, development consent is required before removing or significantly pruning any tree that is 5 metres or more in height, has a canopy spread of 5 metres or more, or has a trunk diameter of 30 cm or more measured at 1 metre above ground. Most established native trees in Cromer will meet at least one of these thresholds, and the permit requirement applies to all works — including by professional contractors.
We check permit requirements at the quoting stage for every job. If a permit is needed, we'll advise you on the application process and, where council requires an arborist assessment report, we can prepare one. The straightforward approach is to call us before making any decisions about significant tree work — it costs nothing and avoids the risk of a substantial fine for unauthorised removal.

Do I need a Northern Beaches Council permit to remove a tree in Cromer?
Yes, in most cases. Any tree with a height of 5 metres or more, a canopy spread of 5 metres or more, or a trunk diameter of 30 cm or more at 1 metre above ground requires development consent from Northern Beaches Council before it can be removed or significantly pruned. Most established trees in Cromer meet at least one of these criteria. We check this at the quoting stage — call us first before making any decisions.
Is it worth getting an assessment before deciding on removal?
Nearly always. We frequently find that trees people have written off as dead or dangerous are actually salvageable with the right pruning work, and that removal isn't the only or best option. An honest assessment tells you the tree's actual condition and what the realistic options are. We don't recommend removal when pruning will do the job — there's no incentive for us to tell you what you don't need.
How do you handle large gum tree removals in residential Cromer?
Carefully, with proper planning. Large Eucalyptus and Angophora removals in established residential streets typically require sectional dismantling — working from the top down in controlled sections, rigged to avoid damage to fences, structures and neighbouring properties. We assess access and the drop zone at the quoting stage, plan the job properly and carry the rigging equipment to do it safely. We don't just drop trees in residential areas.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Booking lead times vary depending on the time of year and the type of work. For emergency work involving immediate safety hazards, we prioritise and respond as quickly as possible. For planned removal or pruning work, contact us as early as you can — particularly in spring and after storm seasons when demand is higher.
