Professional palm tree maintenance across Sydney's Northern Beaches — dead frond removal, seed pod and flower stalk removal for all palm species, keeping your palms healthy, safe and tidy.
Palm trees are one of the most distinctive and widely planted trees on Sydney's Northern Beaches, and they look their best when properly maintained. Left unchecked, dead fronds accumulate around the trunk and crown, creating a serious fire hazard in the dry summer months and providing ideal nesting habitat for rats, possums and other pests. Regular pruning keeps palms looking attractive and significantly reduces these risks to your property and neighbours.
Proper palm pruning technique matters — and it's one of the areas where we see the most damage done by poorly trained operators. Over-pruning palms, removing green fronds or cutting too close to the growth point can stress the palm, slow growth, and in severe cases can damage or kill the tree entirely. We only remove fronds that are fully dead or dying, old flower stalks and seed pods — leaving the green canopy intact to continue photosynthesising and supporting the tree's health.
Seed pods and flower stalks are another important consideration, particularly for Cocos Palms (now a Class 3 weed in many areas) and Date Palms, whose heavy hanging seed clusters can drop suddenly and cause injury. Removing them before they mature also prevents unwanted seedlings spreading through your garden and neighbouring properties.
We work on all palm species commonly found on the Northern Beaches, including Bangalow Palms (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana), Cocos Palms (Syagrus romanzoffiana), Alexander Palms (Archontophoenix alexandrae), Date Palms (Phoenix dactylifera and canariensis) and Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis). Most palms benefit from a tidy-up once or twice a year, though fast-frond producers may need more frequent attention. We're happy to assess your palms and recommend an appropriate maintenance schedule.
Alex will assess your palms, identify what needs removing and give you a clear, honest price. All pruning is carried out safely at height using the correct equipment. All removed fronds, stalks and seed pods are taken away from site. Most palms can be maintained annually — we can set up a regular schedule to keep things consistently tidy.

Do palms need regular pruning?
Mature palms benefit from an annual or biannual clean-up — removing spent fronds, old flower spikes and fruit stalks. Letting these accumulate creates a pest habitat and adds weight to the crown. Cocos palms in particular need more frequent attention.
Is council approval needed to prune palms on the Northern Beaches?
Cocos palms (Syagrus romanzoffiana) are not covered by Northern Beaches Council DCP protections and can generally be pruned or removed without consent. Native palms like Bangalow Palms may require approval depending on size. We advise on permit requirements as part of every quote.
Can you remove a full palm tree rather than just prune it?
Yes — palm removal is something we do regularly. The process depends on height, access and surroundings. We can quote for both pruning and full removal so you can make an informed decision.
What happens to the fronds and debris?
Palm fronds are removed from site. If you'd prefer the timber kept or fronds mulched on site, just let us know at the quoting stage.
We'll come to your property, assess your palms and give you a clear, honest price.
