Established trees, tight blocks — Leichhardt done properly
Leichhardt is a suburb that wears its history on its streets. The Italian heritage that shaped this part of the Inner West over the second half of the twentieth century is still visible in the architecture, the street rhythms and — for our purposes — in the gardens. Italian-heritage households have traditionally been good gardeners, and many of the established properties in Leichhardt have mature garden trees that have been tended over decades: fruit trees, ornamental specimens, and older shade trees in back gardens that have grown well beyond their original planting intent. We respect these trees and approach every job with the question of what's genuinely needed, rather than what's easiest to sell.
The housing mix in Leichhardt runs from terrace houses on tight lots through to larger detached Federation and interwar houses on more generous blocks, particularly toward the edges of the suburb near Haberfield. The larger blocks often have the most substantial trees — mature Jacarandas, older shade trees and garden specimens that require a qualified arborist's assessment rather than just a quick quote from someone with a chainsaw and a ute. We bring AQF qualified arborist credentials to every job, and every pruning job is carried out to AS 4373-2007 Australian Standard.
Leichhardt's street trees are notable. Norton Street and the streets running off it have a well-established canopy of Jacarandas that flowers spectacularly each spring. These street trees belong to the council and any work on them needs to go through Inner West Council rather than us — but we can advise on the difference between a street tree and a garden tree, and we can carry out the maintenance work on your private trees that keeps them healthy and in good structural condition relative to the street canopy.
