Mosman's trees are distinctive — and need careful handling
We're based on the Northern Beaches at North Narrabeen, and Mosman is one of the North Shore suburbs we work in regularly. The drive across from the Beaches takes us through some of Sydney's best harbour landscape, and Mosman itself never disappoints — it's one of those suburbs where the trees genuinely define the streetscape and the feel of the place. Large established gardens, elevated positions with harbour and Middle Harbour views, prestige properties sitting under significant canopy. It's the kind of suburb where the trees matter, and where poorly executed tree work stands out.
Mosman sits on a peninsula with Middle Harbour to the west and Sydney Harbour to the east, and that position shapes the tree species you'll encounter. The sandstone ridge lines and deep gullies are home to large Angophora costata (Sydney Red Gum) specimens — some of the biggest you'll find this close to the city. These trees are visually stunning but they do drop heavy limbs without warning, particularly during dry periods following wet spells. We carry out proper hazard assessments and can advise on deadwooding and crown reduction that reduces risk while keeping the tree structurally sound and aesthetically intact.
The large established gardens in Mosman also contain an impressive range of ornamental and exotic species accumulated over a century of prestige residential development. Ficus macrophylla (Moreton Bay Fig) is a notable presence — some specimens in Mosman are genuinely heritage-significant, with root systems that spread far beyond the canopy. We know how to assess these trees, how to work around the root systems without causing long-term damage, and when removal or containment is genuinely the right call. Canary Island Date Palms, large ornamental figs, mature camphor laurels and London plane trees all feature in Mosman gardens, and we handle all of them.
